How much does it cost to have a package sent from Iraq to the United States?
Philip M asked:
According to the USPS website it is very expensive to send a box of items to a soldier stationed in Iraq unless you use the “One Rate” boxes. However if a solider wants to send a box (Not a USPS box but their own) back is it the same price coming back or is it cheaper because they are military personnel?

I am not asking about prices to send stuff TO Iraq but to send it FROM Iraq.
Thanks for your help. The box is about 24×12x12 and weighs about 50 lbs.

The shipping rates are exactly the same as to send something within the US if they’re mailing it from a military base. If they was sending it from an Iraqi post office (highly unlikely) then it would probably be a lot more. They just need to take it to the post office and they’ll put it on the scale to see how much it will cost. It also depends on the speed they want it to get home; the faster the mail service is the more they will have to pay.
I would assume that the postage would be the same no matter what direction the package is going
It is the same amount sending it from a USPS Office in Iraq to the US as it is to send it from the US to the APO address in Iraq. There is no difference, no discount, nothing.
Look into shipping it if possible in several flat rate boxes instead, that would be cheaper.
i think its pretty much the same. and even if its not its not much different. we got guys sending big tough boxes home all the time. i’d say for that size box it’ll probably be like 15 or 20 bucks.
