How long are breaks between deployment tours to iraq?

Mario C asked:

My unit returned from Iraq last year in September. How long is it until they can be deployed again? Is their some sort of wait period after a tour where a unit can not be called back to duty? For example, they come back for a tour and cant be deployed for another year…or can they still be deployed even months after they’ve returned?

They can deploy as soon as they get back. Its really a toss up. At the moment, the same people are getting deployed over and over because they are the ones who are most qualified. The army recently had an article in the army times about deployment fairness, where they will not do that anymore, but I’m not sure when that goes into effect.

I think they’ve changed it and they’re being deployed too soon after returning, even less than a year after returning. Locally, I’ve heard of them being returned in less than a year.

Prez Bush signed it this year that there is no more waiting period however there is usually units being rotated in and out so it is usuall about 2 years before u redeploy.Good Luck!

here they try to give you one year home time..but some are deployed less then a year. it also depends on what base you are out of. some deploy much more then others. i would say plan on a year home time before leaving again.

They could call ya back at any time. Average wait time in the Army is a year. Some go back sooner, some later. The dwell time for some units here after OIF III was about 18 months, some went back after a year home. I think husband may be home about 18 months after this deployment. So, I guess it would depend alot of things, but they TRY to give you at least a year home.
