What is the best strategy in the war in Iraq and the overall war on terror?

Thursday, June 10th, 2010
iraq
Rob S asked:

I think the war in Iraq is progressing nicely toward the new Shiite government replacing Saddam’s brutal regime with a similar regime dominating the Sunni minority and tolerating the Kurds at least in the near term. It seems like the Shiite government is positioned to take control of most of the country in a timely fashion. The predominantly Sunni areas will remain disputed and require external assistance to prevent them from fortifying against the Iraqi government. If we leave them alone then there will be a civil war and the Sunnis will lose, leaving Iraq to pair itself alongside Iran and I think to join them as a sponsor of terror. Also, if we leave, then Saudi Arabia and other predominantly Sunni Arab countries will support the Sunni insurgents and drag out the Civil War, inflaming Sunni-Shiite tensions in the Arab world.

I think someone has to support Iraq to prevent this from happening? Unless we think we’d be better off with a Middle East at war with itself?

jess asked:

Our country is spending trillions of dollars a year in iraq, and we aren’t even doing what we are there for to begin with? Should the U.S. stop focusing on other people and help our own for awhile? Iraq or America?

How many people will die in Iraq because McCain is the republican candidate?

Saturday, June 5th, 2010
iraq
Tipper asked:

McCain is keen on using more troops in Iraq instead of bringing them home. The enemy wants America to give up and go home. So, they want Mac to lose in November, they hope that we will have a new president who’s name is the same as their country’s, but with a b. If they kill enough people in October they will prove Mac was wrong and make him look dumber. They have a truce now, but that is only for 6 months. They could be busy making bombs and recruiting martyrs.

How do the young soldiers in Iraq release their pent up tension?

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010
iraq
Little Miss Mary asked:

I am 17, and I have a tremendous amount of pent up tension that I suspect will be with me when I am 18 and 19.

How do the young soldiers in Iraq release their pent up tension when they are so far away from home in a strange land?

How do they satisfy the frustrations of youth?

How do we know that Iraq supported the people who attacked us?

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010
iraq
Avatar here asked:

I’ve heard that it was faulty intelligence. Some people are saying straight out that the reason for this war was because Iraq was harboring terrorists or that the source of the attack was from terrorists in Iraq.

However, this neglects what is known about Bush’s reasons. Which was WMD and bring down evil man.

So what do you believe?

How many military would be expected to die if not in Iraq?

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010
iraq
MIKE YANTREE asked:

Iraq is dangerous, but so is training. Every life is valuable and to be honored. Are there stats comparing non-combat zone fatalities to war fatalities? In other words, are there some that would die on the highways of America and yet instead survive because they are not in America but in the dangerous areas of Iraq?
People die in car accidents, in the US training, etc. ….
Some questions appear to not make sense on the surface, but the digging deeper increases their potential for adding knowledge.
Sometimes the facts are counterintuitive. Thanks for the info.

What cultivating projects are good for a Marine deployed in Iraq?

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010
iraq
Natasha N asked:

We were going to grow potatoes (since this year is the international year of the spud) but we just found out that there are a whole bunch of potatoes in Iraq already, so cultivating them would be kind of silly. I mean, doable, but silly.

What other kinds of edible plants can be cultivated easily in a climate like Iraq? The pot-in-pot system of cooling could probably be incorporated into this. Probably.
